Planning a trip to Orlando and visiting Disney World can be an expensive task. Plane tickets, accommodations, tickets to the parks, souvenirs, etc can start to add up fast. So we would like to share some ways to help you elevate the strain on your travel budget.
1. Use a Travel Planner
The benefits of using a knowledgeable travel planner are endless and one of the greatest benefits of utilizing a planner’s expertise is that you will save money.
A travel planner will help guide you through all of the ins and outs of getting the most for your dollar. Where should we stay? What kind of accommodations will be best for our family? What time of year is best to come? Should I purchase a park hopper? These are questions that a travel planner can help you with. They also have guest services connections which provide them with up to date park happenings and discounts that sometimes get overlooked when trying to plan on your own.
2. Stretch Your Food Budget
Disney Dining Plans for your vacation is endless and complicated and there are many instances in which the Disney Dining Plan can be a fantastic option for families and equally as many when it is not the best choice. The dining plan is great for its convenience but there are other options to help you stretch your food dollar especially when staying a vacation home.
Bring some groceries and/or order a welcome pack. Most vacation home companies offer the service of providing groceries or premade packs delivered to the property and the groceries are stocked in the refrigerator when you arrive. Also pack lots of non-perishable items—granola bars, jam and peanut butter are absolutes along with bagels, nuts and dried fruit. This allows us you to pack snacks to bring into the parks and even make sandwiches to eat for lunch at the parks.
Share! The portions at the Disney restaurants are often huge and you can save a great deal of money doing this and be plenty full. Additionally, when you are not on the Disney Dining Plan we also recommend that you choose to eat at a la carte menu restaurants over the pricier buffets.
Take advantage of free water! Disney offers guests large cups of ice water at all of their snack kiosks for free at all of the theme parks. There is no need to carry refillable water bottles around the parks or to buy expensive bottles of water at the restaurants. Stay hydrated throughout our park days with these icy-cold cups of water.
3. Pack It Before You Come
Anything you buy on-site at Disney World is going to cost you a pretty penny and items purchased at home are going to be far more affordable than those sold on Main Street, USA. Before your trip, go to the dollar stores and the dollar bins at your local discount stores. Disney-themed goodies abound in the retail world and you can stock up on treats for your kids at home and surprise them with these little gifts throughout the trip.
Also stroller rental prices at Disney are extremely costly and most families have little ones that will need to use a single or double stroller during their trip. The travel planner can assist you in organizing a rental stroller that delivers the stroller right to vacation home upon arrival and is a fraction of the Disney cost.
4. Inexpensive and Free Family Fun
Disney World has innumerable options for free and inexpensive family fun. From nightly outdoor movies and campfires at every resort hotel to lounge acts, roaming park performers, cane pole fishing, boat and bicycle rentals, wagon rides, and kids’ poolside activities, Downtown Disney activities, a trip to Disney World can be truly enhanced by some of these magical extras.
5. Stay in a Vacation Rental
A vacation rental provides a great low cost, high value option for families over hotel rooms. No cramming into one room, purchasing multiple rooms at a premium, or dining out every night. Make meals to take with you to the parks in fully equipped kitchens, no more fighting over what to watch there are TVs in each room, washer and dryer is provided in each home. Vacation rentals give everyone privacy, security and creates quality family time but best of all you can get your very own private pool. For the cost of a hotel suite you can rent a 3 bedroom 2 bathrooms private pool home with a living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, and 2 car garage plus a private screened in pool.
It’s always best to do your research since there are hundreds of rental providers, management companies and homeowner rental sites available. Find a reputable company with a proven track record, check reviews, social talk, or word of mouth when selecting a company to work with. Find a company that will provide a travel planner to help you put together your trip which should be a free service. Also remember you get what you pay for when renting a vacation rental property just like when you are looking for a hotel property to stay at.
